I used to have clients with big budgets. Clients that understood the value of shooting large format. Clients that listened to my recommendations and took note. We used to do film tests for tonality. It has all changed and I don’t mind so much. I like digital and I like that I can turn over a job quickly and efficiently. What I don’t like is how thoughts may not be as developed anymore because it is moving too quickly and that moment I used to take to pause when a polaroid developed may reveal another direction in my process. So when today I pulled out an old industrial client’s work and I saw all the large format and medium format transparencies I felt very nostalgic and I am still the biggest advocate for film because the film just looks magic, clean, have depth….I could go on and on….and I am not sure what is more magical when I opened the lab envelope and found that that sunset really was that red…
The beauty of large format film
